Price and health concerns are the main reasons why Brazilian consumers are eating meat or meat alternatives less often than six months ago. On the one hand, 25% have followed a meat restricted diet. On the other hand, the consumption of meat is still seen as something to do on special occasions, as meat is perceived as a treat and as part of a healthy diet.

The consumption of meat alternatives, despite the steady growth worldwide, including in the US, still needs to overcome several barriers to become part of the routine, as meat made of vegetables and soy meat, for example, are seen as more expensive and less tasty than regular meat.
