This report examines areas of the general insurance market which fall outside the

mainstream sectors, but have experienced substantial growth in recent years. Mintel has

frequently covered the main insurance products, with reports already produced this year on

motor, travel, home, health and creditor insurance. The focus of this study is the niche

markets which overlap with the mainstream insurance markets, namely motorcycle cover,

legal expenses, wedding insurance and the high net worth sector. These areas are covered

by Mintel for the first time in this report.

Mintel also takes this opportunity to look at general attitudes towards insurance products.

Specially commissioned consumer research asked 1,839 adults about their views on the

price and structure of insurance policies, and potential improvements to existing products. In

this way the future development of both mainstream and niche markets is considered in this

report.
