Aldi is removing 1.4 billion pieces of plastic from its own-branded tea products by the end of 2021. The discounter will switch the oil-based plastic sealing of the tea bags to biodegradable materials instead. The retailer will also remove the plastic packaging of its own-label tea products.

Aldi UK plastics and packaging director Richard Gorman said: “By the end of this year, all of our own-brand tea bags will be biodegradable and contain no plastic whatsoever.”
