Lidl has reportedly written to its British suppliers reminding them that they will be responsible to cover tariff costs imposed on goods crossing borders in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Lidl’s current contract with its suppliers includes a clause stating that goods must be delivered with tariffs paid. In the “delivered duty paid” clause it is outlined that it is the responsibility of the supplier to cover the cost of transporting goods, including tariffs on EU goods.

In a statement, Lidl said “All existing Lidl contracts contain a DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) clause. In an effort to understand the level of preparedness of key UK suppliers we are communicating proactively with them and working together to resolve any potential barriers to supply.”
