Card Factory has reported a 10.3% rise in revenue to £510.9 million for its preliminary results for the year ending January 31, 2024. The retailer's EBITDA also grew by 9.5% to £122.6 million while its pre-tax profit totalled £65.6 million, a 25.2% increase compared to a year before.

Mintel comment:

“A strong set of results from Card Factory with the retailer highlighting a successful nation-wide rollout of its Click and collect and investment in its omnichannel strategy being pivotal to the growth seen in FY24. The positive momentum from the retailer demonstrates that its value and quality proposition continues to resonate with customers at a time when value for money remains a priority-especially at key seasonal events like Valentine’s Day. Indeed, half of Valentine’s Day shoppers said financial concerns meant they spent less on Valentine’s Day gifts in 2024 compared to last (see Valentine’s Day-UK, 2024).

The past year has remained a challenge for the greetings cards sector with the wider gifting sector under pressure as people remain cautious about spending on non-essential items. However, Card Factory's strong performance signals a positive shift in consumer confidence regarding financial outlooks for the coming year, as indicated by Mintel’s Household Finance Tracker. To maintain this momentum, retailers must keep highlighting their value propositions, meeting the demands of cost-conscious consumers who value both convenience and affordability. With its strategic focus on expanding and effectively sourcing its gift offerings, Card Factory is well-positioned to become a go-to destination for thoughtful and budget-friendly gifting options.”
