In Schönberg, Edeka Nord is launching the first pilot market with partial operation. Edeka Alpen has been operating the sales area autonomously since April after closing time and on Sundays. Shoppers are able to access the market via their bank cards and can pay for their purchases cashless at three self-checkout cash registers.

Edeka Nord is looking for other locations to apply its new concept. Its group leader for digital solutions and organisation, Jörn Oeser said: “The concept of the hybrid market therefore also has particular potential for economically more difficult locations in rural areas or markets in our holiday regions with seasonally fluctuating customer numbers.”
