For the 52 weeks to 30 December, Greggs posted a 20% increase in sales to £1.81 billion, compared to the 23% increase in 2022. Company-managed shop sales grew 13.7% on a like-for-like basis. Its evening trade was hailed to be a success, posting a 8.7% uptick in the second half of the year, as over 1,200 sites now open until 7pm or later. Greggs opened 220 new shops over the year, with its portfolio now standing at a total of 2,473.

Pre-tax profits jumped 27% to £188.3 million over the period. Greggs chief executive Roisin Currie said: “We are very much on track to deliver our bold five-year growth plan to double sales by 2026 and to have significantly more than 3,000 shops in the UK over the longer term.”
