Food discounter Aldi is urging suppliers in Belgium to further reduce CO₂ emissions to help it reduce its CO₂ emissions by 40% by 2021 and meet the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI), an international partnership that aims to keep global warming within 2°C.

Aldi has been strongly committed to climate-friendly shops in Belgium with energy-efficient lighting, natural CO₂ cooling and solar panels on the roofs, but as 95% of total emissions in the retail sector are generated outside the stores, it is now calling on its suppliers, which are responsible for 75% of its CO₂ emissions, to strengthen their climate reducing measures, including reducing waste, making packaging recyclable and optimizing logistics.
