Online retailer Amazon has created an ‘intelligent’ shopping trolley that uses cameras and sensors to track items and charge customers for them thus enabling shoppers to leave the store without queuing for a checkout station.

The trolleys are set to be launched in California later this year and require the shopper to have an Amazon account and a smartphone. Amazon said that the trolley is designed to look and work as much like its technology-free counterpart thus ensuring that shoppers do not have to learn new behaviours to carry out their shopping.
