In 2005, the creditor insurance market has begun to undergo the process of regulatory assessment. However, the market has not simply fallen under the spotlight of one regulator. The Office of Fair Trading (OFT), the Competition Commission (CC) and the Financial Services Authority (FSA) have all taken an interest in the market and it appears that the conclusions of each body will contribute to a new regulatory picture for the PPI industry and the PPI market.

Of the four micro-markets which underpin the creditor insurance market loans for house purchase grossed the largest lending amount, closely followed by credit cards. In 2005, the value of the creditor insurance market (GWP) has grown by 11% on 2004 figures. Mintel estimates that 80% of creditor insurance policies are distributed through banks and building societies, 11% via finance houses, 5% via retailers and 4% by other providers.
