Debenhams has won its High Court battle with a landlord over its CVA. The CVA will see 50 stores close across its 166 store estate and rents being cut from a further 100 but Debenhams aims to shut 22 stores by January 2020.High Court

The CVA received backing from 90% of its creditors in May however one of it landlords Combined Property Control (CPC) challenged the department store and bought the retailer to court with the financial backing from Sports Direct. On winning the legal battle Debenhams chief executive Stefaan Vansteenkiste said: “We are delighted that the court has today confirmed that our CVA is effective and will continue to be implemented as planned. Our proposals had unprecedented levels of support from our landlords and today’s outcome is good news for our 25,000 employees, our pensioners and suppliers. We retain the support of our lenders, and everyone at Debenhams can now focus on trading ahead of the important Christmas period.”
