Waitrose have announced plans to scrap 40 million single-use plastic bags per year by removing them from in-store collections and deliveries, as well as replacing their 10p bags for life in store with 50p reusable bags, made from recycled materials.

Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s have already removed plastic bags from their home deliveries, and Morrison’s removed all plastic bags, including bags for life, from their stores in April of this year. The change comes as research by Waitrose finds that 10p bags are being used once, and not multiple times as intended, and comes into effect on 27th of September.
