Sainsbury’s has partnered with Ufirst to launch a virtual queuing system designed to help vulnerable shoppers maintain social distancing whilst shopping. Shoppers can join a virtual queue via the Sainsbury’s app and monitor their position remotely from any location. The shoppers will then receive a notification when they can enter the store safely.
The system was built with the possibility of a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in mind. Tools like this could be vital should the government re-introduce limits on shopper numbers. A trial period will be launched in five stores to take in customer feedback before a country-wide rollout in the future.
