Lottery sales have begun to slide from the record levels achieved on the back of National Lottery price rises in 2015/16, with an unfavourable consumer reaction to further format changes damaging draw game sales and having a negative knock-on effect for the previously booming scratchcard segment.

The society lotteries sector has been quietly moving in the other direction, though, with the People’s Postcode Lottery leading the way in terms of growth.

Camelot is now planning a raft of new format, technological and marketing changes to reinvigorate its National Lottery portfolio, while a number of new and forthcoming regulatory measures could shift the focus of the market as a whole away from odds and prizes back towards its contributions to good causes.
