What you need to know

Mintel estimates that online sales of clothing, fashion accessories and footwear will grow by 17.2% to reach £16.2 billion in 2017, as the ease of purchasing via mobile is helping to fuel online demand.

Online-only retailers are growing at a faster rate than multichannel retailers, driven by the young fast fashion pureplays such as ASOS, Boohoo and Missguided. These retailers have understood that what young consumers want is low-priced, frequently updated fashionable clothing and they are focusing on getting garments from design to sale in record time.

Some 76% of online shoppers are interested in improved delivery options. Customer expectations have been raised and in order to remain competitive more fashion retailers will need to continue improving their fulfilment capabilities – with delivery becoming a key online battleground.
