As offshore wind becomes a more mature technology and costs fall, it has the potential to play a very significant role in the 2020s and out to 2050 alongside other low carbon technologies. The draft EMR Delivery Plan showed potential deployment of up to 16GW of offshore wind by 2020, and up to 39GW by 2030. The UK is currently the world’s largest offshore wind market with more capacity deployed than any other country and it is likely to retain this status.
