Royal Mail has announced that it is to roll out 1,400 parcel post boxes across the UK. The initiative follows a successful trial last year, and marks the first major shift for British postboxes for the past 160 years.
The postboxes will allow customers to post parcels at any time, seven days a week, while aiding small businesses and marketplace sellers by enabling them to post pre-paid parcels in the same way as they currently post letters. The innovation comes amid surging consolidation across online retail, and the boom in demand for parcel networks facilitating this commerce.
The postboxes will be introduced over a six month period starting in August 2019, using existing meter boxes by converting them to a wider dimension and more secure design.
