The Works reports first half loss

In the 26 weeks to 28th October, book, stationery and arts and craft retailer The Works reported a 15% increase in revenue to £91.5 million and a 3.8% uplift in like-for-like sales.

However, the retailer made an adjusted EBITDA loss of £0.9 million and posted a statutory pre-tax loss of £7.9 million for the period. Its most recent trading update over the Christmas period is more positive with like-for-like sales in the 11 weeks to 13th January increasing by 4.5%. This included growth both in-store and online.
